Merit Badge Workshops, Feb - March Registration, OPEN

February & March registrations were opened on Monday January 30th, at 9AM. Most workshops have been filled already but there is some availability.  Dates, available courses and registration can be found HERE.  


 

Blue Nose Camping Trip, Feb. 18-20

For those with up to date Blue Nose Training the date for the yearly trip to Onteora is rapidly approaching. If you have not already please contact Mr. Hanley ASAP if you are planning to attend.


 

Committee Meeting, Monday Feb. 207:30-9pm

There is a troop committee meeting Monday, Feb. 20 at the Kulins house. As always all parents are invited to attend to see what is going on in the troop and provide input

The council is having a merit badge workshop on this day. All workshops have been filled but if you have already registered be sure to get a blue card from Mr Hanley and check for PreReqs.


 

Schiff Scout Reservation camping trip, March. 17,18,19

The troop will be camping at Schiff Scout reservation on the weekend of March 17-19. We will be attending Mr. Raia’s Pinetree: Pioneering class on Saturday. We will be leaving from Newbridge road school on Friday at 6:30 and returning Sunday. We will be brown bagging for Friday night. Cost per scout is $25, permission slips available HEREare due at the 3/9 troop meeting. Remember we always travel in Class A Uniform.

The council is having a merit badge workshop on this day. All workshops have been filled but if you have already registered be sure to get a blue card from Mr Hanley and check for PreReqs


 

Hats, Neckerchiefs & Class B T-Shirts available

All scouts are required to be in full Class A uniform at all regular troop meetings and Class B uniform at any function not requiring a Class Uniform. If you’ve lost, misplaced or outgrown any part of your uniform please order replacements. Orders forms foundHERE can be brought to a meeting, texted or emailed per the order form. Also please consider donating any uniform pieces you have outgrown for younger scouts. Just bring the clean pieces to a meeting and give to Mr. O’Hea or Mrs. Kulins.

Merit Badge Workshops, Feb - March Registration, OPEN

February & March registrations were opened on Monday January 30th, at 9AM. Most workshops have been filled already but there is some availability.  Dates, available courses and registration can be found HERE.  


 

CPR with AED Standard First Aid, Friday, Feb. 10, 7pm

If you missed the Troop CPR / AED session it is highly recommended to get certified at this council sponsored event.  This is being held at the Theodore Roosevelt Council Service Center, 544 Broadway, Massapequa, NY 11758. You can register now through February 9 2017 at 5:00PM Here. Cost for this training is $40.

The council is having a merit badge workshop on this day. Registration for these merit badges is Monday Jan 30. The most merit badges being offered have been filled but Basketry is still available. Scout and Scouter Training Opportunities

 

NRA Rifle, Shotgun and Basic Instructor Training, Friday, February 10, 2017 at 7:00pm to Sunday, February 12, 2017 at 5:00pm

This course will start with Basic Instructor training on Friday which must be completedwithin 12 months of becoming a certified instructor in any of the NRA Disciplines. Rifle Instructor will take place on Saturday followed by Shotgun Instructor on Sunday. Each discipline will require time on the range so please prepared for dealing with the elements. Certified Instructor course is for Rifle and Shotgun participants must be at least 21 years of age to sign up and get certified. The course will be held at Schiff Scout Reservation, cost is $190 and registration, available HERE is open until Feb 7.

 

Pine Tree Training: Cooking, Feb. 11 8:30am to 2:30pm

Open to all Boy Scouts and Webelos. Work on the requirements for the cooking Merit Badge at Schiff Scout Reservation in Wading River and earn the Pine Tree cooking patch. Price $9. Online registration and more details on this program is available HERE.

There is a Troop Leadership Meeting 4pm at the Healy’s home tonight, all youth and adult leadership are asked to attend. There are many subjects and upcoming trips that need to be planned for so please make an effort to attend. If you are unable to attend be sure to contact your SPL.

Scout and Scouter Training Opportunities

 

NRA RSO Training Course Course, Saturday Feb. 4

Attend this NRA National Rifle Association Range Safety Officer training course for anyone that would like to be certified as a range manger.  NRA RSO is for individuals 18 or older that would like to learn how to run a range. As the course is discounted we will ask those taking the course to assist in opening the range at Schiff or OSR at different times throughout the year. The course will be held at Schiff Scout Reservation, cost is $55 and registration, available HERE is open until Feb 1.

This weeks troop meeting will be a CPR certification course to be held at the American Legion Hall with an earlier 7pm start time. Scouts, scouters and parents are all invited and encouraged to take this training. The cost for the course will be $12 per person to cover training and materials.

The troop will be performing community service at the United Methodist Church Soup Kitchen in Farmingdale by serving meals to those in need. Scouts and adults are needed for this day. Please mark your calendars. Permission slips will be available soon. Contact Mrs. Kulins with questions.

Theodore Roosevelt Council will be holding these training courses at Schiff Scout Reservation on Jan. 20–22, 2017. Starts at 6pm on Friday and ends at 12noon on Sunday.

(You only need to attend one of these weekend courses)

In addition to Leave No Trace this program will qualify you as a Tread Lightly! Trainer.

This course is open to registered youth, at least 14 years old as of the start of the course, & BSA registered adults.

Course size is limited! All prior courses filled up fast.

DEADLINES TO REGISTER: Fri., Jan. 6, 2017

Course Fee $90 per person includes all materials, membership with the LNT Center & Tread Lightly!, patch, trained card, meals, cabin camping site & insurance.

Participants must attend all sessions to complete the course.

Cabin Camping Trip, Resica Falls, Jan. 6,7,8

**Signup extended till the troop meeting tomorrow, bring money and a permission slip**

The troop will be cabin camping the weekend of Jan 6,7,8 at Resica Falls Scout Reservation in East Stroudsburg, PA. All scouts able to make it should attend. This is always a fun trip, we will be showing movies as we have done in the past and we may be going to a local ski mountain where scouts can either tube or ski. Cost for the trip is $25. If you plan on tubing please bring an extra $30 or skiing bring an extra $90. Be sure to bring appropriate clothing if you intend on tubing, skiing or if there is enough snow on the ground in camp to sleigh ride. If you bring a sled bring a bike helmet. Permission slips available HERE are due tomorrow Jan. 5.

Cabin Camping Trip, Resica Falls, Jan. 6,7,8

The troop will be cabin camping the weekend of Jan 6,7,8 at Resica Falls Scout Reservation in East Stroudsburg, PA.  The troop needs a full head count of everyone going, so all scouts need to contact their patrol leaders ASAP to inform them if they are going or not and also if their parent plans on going so accommodations can be set and meals can be planned. Cub scouts will be invited on this trip also so a good turnout of troop members is needed. All scouts able to make it should attend. This is always a fun trip, we will be showing movies as we have done in the past and we will be going to a local ski mountain where scouts can either tube or ski. Cost for the trip is $25. Troop Dues Due, Thursday, Nov. 17, 7:30pm

Do to increases in registration/chartering costs by BSA National, troop dues will be going up to $125 for the year. Dues is past due and can be payed at any troop meeting. Please pay your dues as soon as possible to help keep the troop funded if you have not already.


Honor Court, Troop Meeting, Thursday, Dec. 15, 7pm

All parents and family be sure to join us in recognizing all the hard work and achievements attained by all the boys over the past few months. The Panther patrol have been assigned to bring cake and cookies the Cobra patrol were assigned pretzels a chips and senior patrol is bringing drinks.

Outdoor Ethics Courses: Leave No Trace & Tread Lightly! Trainer Course

Theodore Roosevelt Council will be holding these training courses at Schiff Scout Reservation on Jan. 20–22, 2017. Starts at 6pm on Friday and ends at 12noon on Sunday.

(You only need to attend one of these weekend courses)

In addition to Leave No Trace this program will qualify you as a Tread Lightly! Trainer.

This course is open to registered youth, at least 14 years old as of the start of the course, & BSA registered adults.

Course size is limited! All prior courses filled up fast.

DEADLINES TO REGISTER: Fri., Jan. 6, 2017

Course Fee $90 per person includes all materials, membership with the LNT Center & Tread Lightly!, patch, trained card, meals, cabin camping site & insurance.

Participants must attend all sessions to complete the course.

The troop is always in need of adult help please consider taking a committee position. This training will give you insight into how you can help our boys and the troop successful. This is for any troop committee position. Scoutmasters and Assistant Scoutmasters are encouraged to take this training to learn the functions of the committee and how the committee can best support your program. Do to increases in registration/chartering costs by BSA National, troop dues will be going up to $125 for the year. Dues is past due and can be payed at any troop meeting. Please pay your dues as soon as possible to help keep the troop funded if you have not already.


Wreath Sale Delivery, Friday, Dec. 2

Our wreath order is being delivered Dec. 2, adult help will be needed to accept delivery. Anyone who can assist at the post for any amount of time to sort and tag orders is appreciated.

We ask anyone who has an order to please come pick it up in a timely manner. Those who cannot come during the day your orders will be on the side of the building. Please check and recheck your orders before taking them

Peace Light  Celebration and Concert, Friday, Dec. 2, 7:30pm

If you would like to celebrate the Advent Season (the four weeks prior to Christmas) in a special way, plan to attend the Peace Light Celebration and Concert in Lindenhurst on Friday, Dec. 2 at 7:30pm, at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Church, 210 South Wellwood Avenue, Lindenhurst.

The light originates from the Church of the Nativity in Bethlehem and makes its journey to the United States each year thanks to International Scouting and Austrian Airlines.

You may actually bring a lantern to accept the light and bring it back to your unit or to your church.  If your parish plans to participate by having its own celebration, please get in touch with the Catholic Committee on its Facebook page.

There is a dessert fellowship following the celebration.  Please bring a dessert to share.

Come celebrate together as we prepare for Christmas in this special way!

The University of Scouting is a oneday supplemental training program designed to provide ideas and resources in areas to benefit your Pack, Troop or Crew, while having fun. The University of Scouting is offered once a year to assist Scouts and Scouters in their Scouting positions. Parents may attend also. It is also a great way to connect with other Scouters.

All Adult Volunteers including Cub Scout, Boy Scout, Explorer, Venturing Leaders, Commissioners, District and Council level volunteers, and all other Scout volunteers should consider attending. The link to the flyer for this program can be found HERE.

20th Annual 10 Commandment Hike, Friday, Nov. 25

The hike this year will be in Bellmore. It is a great way to walk off all the extra servings of turkey and stuffing from Thanksgiving and learn. Cost is $5 per scout and adult if registered by 11/18, $10 after 11/18. The online registration is available HERE, the permission slip is due at the troop meeting on 11/17.


Soup Kitchen Community Service, Sunday, Nov. 27, 10:30am-3:30pm

The troop will be performing community service at the United Methodist Church Soup Kitchen in Farmingdale by serving meals to those in need. Scouts and adults are needed for this day. Veterans Day Ceremony, Friday, November 11, 10:45am

The troop will be participating in the Veterans Day ceremony at the veterans memorial in front of the North Bellmore Library as we have done previous years. Scouts need to be at the North Bellmore Library promptly at 10:45am in full complete Class A uniform. Permission slip is available HERE. We will be leaving for West Hills immediately after the ceremony.


West Hills Park Camping Trip, Nov. 11,12,13

The troop will be camping at West Hill Park in Mellville on the weekend of Nov. 11-13. We will be inviting Webelos to camp with us and Bears to visit for the day on Saturday. Please try to make this trip it is a great chance to show these potential scouts what a great troop we have. We will be leaving from Newbridge road school immediately following the Veterans ceremony. Cost for the weekend is $20, the troop will be cooking dinner Friday night, not brown bag. Permission slips available HERE are past due.


Turkey in the Woods, Saturday, Nov. 12, 3pm

While camping at West Hills we will also be hosting our yearly Turkey Feast. As always families are encouraged to attend this wonderful gathering to share a meal and celebrate our friendship.

Families are invited to meet the troop at West Hills Park in Mellville at 3pm. Please contact Mrs Kulins or Mrs Leisenring for more info and if you can bring a dish.
