Yearly Dues, Troop meeting, Thursday, Oct. 29, 7:30pm

If you have not done already please remember to bring your dues payments.

This year’s dues of $100 is due and can be paid this Thursday at the troop meeting. It can be paid in full, ½ now ½ later or $20 per week till paid via cash or check made out to “BSA Troop 577”. The troop needs these funds to keep running so please be sure to pay your dues promptly.


 

Nassau County Veterans Day Ceremony, Sunday, Nov. 8, 10am

The troop will be attending the Nassau County Veterans Day Ceremony  again this year. It will be held at the veterans memorial in Eisenhower Park. This is one of the three requirements to earn your American Legion patch. Let’s show our veterans they are not forgotten and how much we appreciate their sacrifices. Please show up in complete Class A uniform looking sharp. More details to come.


 

American Legion Veterans Day Service, Wednesday, Nov. 11, 11am

The troop will be attending the American Legion Veterans Day 11 / 11 / 11 service again this year. It will be held at the veterans memorial in front of the North Bellmore Library. This is one of the three requirements to earn your American Legion patch. Let’s show our troop sponsors our gratitude, how much we appreciate their sacrifices and all they do for us. Please show up in complete Class A uniform looking sharp. More details to come.


 

West Hills Camping Trip, Nov. 14-15

The troop will be overnight camping at West Hill Park in Mellville on the weekend of Nov. 14 - 15. We will be inviting Webelos to camp with us and Bears to visit for the day. Please try to make this trip it is a great chance to show these potential scouts what a great troop we have. We will be leaving from Newbridge Road School at 7am as usual. Cost will be $15 per scout and adult.

Merit Badge Workshop, Saturday, Nov. 14, 9am-1:30pm

The council is having another merit badge workshop on this day. The merit badges to be offered are Electronics, Animation, Signs Signals & Codes, and Medicine. The cost is $25, online registration is not open yet. Be sure to get a blue card from Mr. Hanley and check for PreReqs.


 

OA Wulihan Chapter Meeting, Wednesday, Nov. 18, 7:30pm - 10:00pm

Just a reminder the OA will be having a meeting this night.


 

Gratitude Gathering,Thursday, Nov. 19, 6:30pm

The troop will once again be sharing a family holiday meal together as well as inviting Webelos from local packs and their families. This years theme is will be international meals. Please bring your favorite foods and sample other foods from around the world. All scouts should wear Class A Uniforms. Please  RSVP to Mary Anne. Link to the flyer is HERE.


 

Wreath Sale Orders Due, Thursday, Nov. 19, 6:30pm

All wreath sale orders are due at the Gratitude Gathering. This is a great opportunity to put some funds in the troop scout accounts. Every little bit helps.


 

Soup Kitchen Community Service, Sunday, Nov. 22, 10:30am-3:30pm

The troop will be performing community service at the soup kitchen in Farmingdale by serving meals to those in need. Scouts and adults are needed for this day. Please mark your calendars. Contact Mrs. Kulins to confirm or with questions.


 

10 Commandment Hike, Friday, Nov. 27

The hike this year will be in Rockville Center. It is a great way to walk off all the extra servings of turkey and stuffing from Thanksgiving and learn. Cost is $5 per scout and adult if registered by 11/20, $10 after 11/20. The flyer for the hike is available HERE and online registration is available HERE.


 

Scout and Scouter Training Opportunities

 

Junior Leadership Orientation Workshop, Nov. 7, 8:30am to 3:30pm

The Junior Leader Orientation Workshop (JLOW) is designed to supplement Troop Junior Leader Training by providing more in-depth treatment of patrol method, patrol operations and troop operations, which are then brought back and utilized in their troops. That means better Scouting for more Scouts.

Your Scouts will learn about: Patrol Meetings Leadership Skills Patrol Operations Troop Program Planning Troop Meetings Green Bar Councils Troop Advancement Team Building Games

This training will be held at the Holy Resurrection Greek Orthodox Church 1400 Cedar Swamp Road, Brookville, N.Y. Southwest corner of Rt. 25A and Rt. 107. Cost is $10, more details and registration can be found HERE.

 

Pine Tree Training: Archery, Nov. 14, 9:00am to 1:00pm

Open to Webelos and Boy Scouts.Come out learn or practice your archery skills at Schiff Scout Reservation in Wading River and earn the Pine Tree Archery Patch.  Price $4. Online registration is HERE, flyer for this program is HERE.

 

Pine Tree Training: Orienteering, Nov. 14, 9:00am to 1:00pm

Open to Webelos and Boy Scouts.Come out learn or practice your orienteering skills at Schiff Scout Reservation in Wading River and earn the Pine Tree Archery Patch.  Please bring an orienteering compass. Price $4. Online registration is HERE, flyer for this program is HERE.

Blue Nose Training, Dec. 6, 12:30pm to 5:00pm

This cold-weather camping training course, open to both Scouts and adults, is being held Sunday, December 6th at Chaminade High School in Mineola.

  During this afternoon course, you will learn the basics of cold-weather camping, and gain lots of knowledge and preparation for those upcoming chilly weekend trips! This course is also required for those Scouts and adults who plan on attending the Blue Nose camping weekend in February. Training is valid for 2 years so if you want to attend Bluenose make sure you are up to date

  Note that although Scouts must have attained the rank of First Class or be 13 years old to attend the camping weekend, ANY Scout may attend this training class.Cost is $3 per person. Click HERE for the flyer and click HERE to register online.
