Troop Dues Due, Thursday, Oct. 13, 7:30pm

Do to increases in registration/chartering costs by BSA National, troop dues will be going up to $125 for the year. Dues is past due and can be payed at any troop meeting. Please pay your dues as soon as possible to help keep the troop funded if you have not already.


 

Veterans Clothing Drive, ongoing

The troop will be collecting new socks, underwear, hats, gloves, gently used sweatshirts and jackets for the veterans the next two weeks. Flyers will be available at tonight's meeting that can be handed out to family, friends and neighbors.  It can also be downloaded from HERE to print yourself or to email.


 

Mepham Pep Rally Fundraiser, Friday Oct. 14, 3:45-6:15pm

The troop has been afforded a last  minute opportunity to fundraise at Mepham H.S. between the pep rally and the football game this coming Friday. We will be selling food to those in attendance. This will require several adult and scout volunteers. If you can lend a hand please contact Mrs. Kulins. This is a great opportunity to raise funds in a short period of time so if you can please volunteer.  


 

Ben Hanley’s Eagle Project, Oct. 15-16, 8am-5pm

Ben will be holding his Eagle project this weekend doing work at the Town of Hempstead senior housing in Bellmore. See supplemental email for more details. Please RSVP Ben ASAP @ (516) 557-4219 if you are able to volunteer on either the 15th or 16th and when you plan on coming and going. Also please inform him what tools you are planning on bringing, especially if anyone has a strong enough power washer for the job.


 

Merit Badge Workshop, Saturday, Oct. 15, 9am-1:30pm

The council is having a merit badge workshop on this day. All workshops have been filled. Be sure to get a blue card from Mr Hanley and check for PreReqs if you already signed up.


 

Merit Badge Workshops, Nov - Dec Registration, OPEN Monday, Oct. 17 9:30am

Registration for all November and December Merit Badge Workshops will be opened Monday Oct. 17, 9am. Dates, available courses and registration can be found HERE.  


 

Committee Meeting, Monday Oct. 17, 7:30-9pm

There is a troop committee meeting Monday, Oct. 17 at the Kulins house. As always all parents are invited to attend to see what is going on in the troop and provide input.


 

Halloween Family Camp and Fall Festival, October 21-23

Continuing on the success of last year, this year TRC is looking to make this years Halloween Festival Bigger and Better with more available to do throughout the camp.  This is a cub family camping experience for this fall!! We will be a Service Troop for this council event at Schiff Scout reservation. We will be tent camping leaving Friday night 6pm from Newbridge Road School. We will be brown bagging lunch for Friday night but all other meals will be provided for us and there is no cost for scouts. Permission slips, available HERE, are due at this week's troop meeting.


 

Wreath Sale preparations, ongoing

The troop will be selling wreaths again for the holidays. We are in need of volunteers to make ribbons and to collect pine cones to be applied to wreaths we get. Please contact Mrs. Kulins if you can help.


 

Veterans Day Ceremony, Friday, November 11, 10:45am

The troop will be participating in the Veterans Day ceremony at the veterans memorial in front of the North Bellmore Library as we have done previous years. Scouts need to be at the North Bellmore Library promptly at 10:45am in full complete Class A uniform. Permission slip is available HERE. We will be leaving for West Hills immediately after the ceremony.


 

West Hills Park camping trip, Nov. 11,12,13

The troop will be camping at West Hill Park in Mellville on the weekend of Nov. 11-13. We will be inviting Webelos to camp with us and Bears to visit for the day on Saturday. Please try to make this trip it is a great chance to show these potential scouts what a great troop we have. We will be leaving from Newbridge road school immediately following the Veterans ceremony. We will be brown bagging for Friday night. Permission slips available HERE are due at the 11/3 troop meeting.


 

Turkey in the Woods, Saturday, Nov. 12, 3pm

While camping at West Hills we will also be hosting our yearly Turkey Feast. As always families are encouraged to attend this wonderful gathering to share a meal and celebrate our friendship.

Families are invited to meet the troop at West Hills Park in Mellville at 3pm. More details on this gathering to come please save the date.


 

Toby Harrington’s Eagle Project Fundraiser, Saturday, Dec. 17, 9:30am

Toby is doing a day at the movies to help me raise money for my Eagle Project.

I have a limited amount of theater tickets to sell, Please rsvp soon as possible.

Come see Star Wars Episode VIII on December 17, 2016, 9:30 am.

Scout and Scouter Training Opportunities

 

Outdoor Ethics Courses: Leave No Trace & Tread Lightly! Trainer Course

Theodore Roosevelt Council will be holding these training courses at Schiff Scout Reservation on Nov. 4–6, 2016 and Jan. 20–22, 2017. Starts at 6pm on Friday and ends at 12noon on Sunday.

(You only need to attend one of these weekend courses)

In addition to Leave No Trace this program will qualify you as a Tread Lightly! Trainer.

This course is open to registered youth, at least 14 years old as of the start of the course, & BSA registered adults.

Course size is limited! All prior courses filled up fast.

DEADLINES TO REGISTER: Fri., Oct. 21, 2016 and Fri., Jan. 6, 2017

Course Fee $90 per person includes all materials, membership with the LNT Center & Tread Lightly!, patch, trained card, meals, cabin camping site & insurance.

Participants must attend all sessions to complete the course.
