Troop Dues Due, Thursday, Oct. 27, 7:30pm

Do to increases in registration/chartering costs by BSA National, troop dues will be going up to $125 for the year. Dues is past due and can be payed at any troop meeting. Please pay your dues as soon as possible to help keep the troop funded if you have not already.


Veterans Clothing Drive Collection, October 27, 7:30pm

The troop will be collecting new socks, underwear, hats, gloves, gently used sweatshirts and jackets for the veterans. **Update: We are also collecting gently used comforters and blankets. More flyers will be available this week's meeting that can be handed out to family, friends and neighbors.  It can also be downloaded from HERE to print yourself or to email.


Wreath Sale, ongoing

The troop will be selling wreaths again for the holidays. We are in need of volunteers to make ribbons and to collect pine cones to be applied to wreaths we get. Please contact Mrs. Kulins if you can help decorate .

Flyers and order forms will be handed out at the troop  meeting tonight or the flyer can be downloaded from HERE and the order form from HERE. ALl orders with payment in full are due at the Nov 17th troop meeting. Please contact Mrs. Leisenring if you order questoions. .


Merit Badge Workshop, Saturday, Nov. 5, 9am-1:30pm

The council is having a merit badge workshop on this day. All workshops have been filled. Be sure to get a blue card from Mr Hanley and check for PreReqs if you already signed up


Veterans Day Ceremony, Friday, November 11, 10:45am

The troop will be participating in the Veterans Day ceremony at the veterans memorial in front of the North Bellmore Library as we have done previous years. Scouts need to be at the North Bellmore Library promptly at 10:45am in full complete Class A uniform. Permission slip is available HERE. We will be leaving for West Hills immediately after the ceremony.


West Hills Park camping trip, Nov. 11,12,13

The troop will be camping at West Hill Park in Mellville on the weekend of Nov. 11-13. We will be inviting Webelos to camp with us and Bears to visit for the day on Saturday. Please try to make this trip it is a great chance to show these potential scouts what a great troop we have. We will be leaving from Newbridge road school immediately following the Veterans ceremony. Cost for the weekend is $20, the troop will be cooking dinner Friday night, not brown bag. Permission slips available HERE are due at the 11/3 troop meeting.


Turkey in the Woods, Saturday, Nov. 12, 3pm

While camping at West Hills we will also be hosting our yearly Turkey Feast. As always families are encouraged to attend this wonderful gathering to share a meal and celebrate our friendship.

Families are invited to meet the troop at West Hills Park in Mellville at 3pm. More details on this gathering to come please save the date.


Merit Badge Workshops, Nov - Dec Registration, OPEN

Registration for all November and December Merit Badge Workshops was opened Monday Oct. 17. Dates, available courses and registration can be found HERE.  


Toby Harrington’s Eagle Project, Nov. 19, 8am-4pm, Nov. 20, 12am-4pm

Toby will be holding his Eagle project this weekend doing work at the United Methodist Church in Merrick. Please save the dates, more details to follow.


20th Annual 10 Commandment Hike, Friday, Nov. 25

The hike this year will be in Bellmore. It is a great way to walk off all the extra servings of turkey and stuffing from Thanksgiving and learn. Cost is $5 per scout and adult if registered by 11/18, $10 after 11/18. The online registration is available HERE, the permission slip is due at the troop meeting on 11/10.


Toby Harrington’s Eagle Project Fundraiser, Saturday, Dec. 17, 9:30am

Toby is doing a day at the movies to help me raise money for my Eagle Project.

I have a limited amount of theater tickets to sell, Please rsvp soon as possible.

Scout and Scouter Training Opportunities

 

Outdoor Ethics Courses: Leave No Trace & Tread Lightly! Trainer Course

Theodore Roosevelt Council will be holding these training courses at Schiff Scout Reservation on Nov. 4–6, 2016 and Jan. 20–22, 2017. Starts at 6pm on Friday and ends at 12noon on Sunday.

(You only need to attend one of these weekend courses)

In addition to Leave No Trace this program will qualify you as a Tread Lightly! Trainer.

This course is open to registered youth, at least 14 years old as of the start of the course, & BSA registered adults.

Course size is limited! All prior courses filled up fast.

DEADLINES TO REGISTER: Fri., Oct. 21, 2016 and Fri., Jan. 6, 2017

Course Fee $90 per person includes all materials, membership with the LNT Center & Tread Lightly!, patch, trained card, meals, cabin camping site & insurance.

Participants must attend all sessions to complete the course.

Junior Leader Orientation Workshop, Saturday, Nov. 5, 9am-3:30pm

The Junior Leader Orientation Workshop (JLOW) is designed to supplement Troop Junior Leader Training by providing more in-depth treatment of patrol method, patrol operations and troop operations, which are then brought back and utilized in their troops. That means better Scouting for more Scouts.

It is being held at Holy Resurrection Church 1400 Cedar Swamp Road, Brookville, NY 11545.

Pine Tree Training: Backpacking (Cold Weather), Nov. 19, 9:00am to 1:00pm

Open to Webelos and Boy Scouts.Come out learn or practice your Backpacking skills at Schiff Scout Reservation in Wading River and earn the Pine Tree Backpacking Patch. Price $6. Online registration is HERE, flyer for this program is HERE.

 

Pine Tree Training: Cooking, Nov. 19, 8:30am to 2:30pm

Open to all Boy Scouts and Webelos. Work on the requirements for the cooking Merit Badge at Schiff Scout Reservation in Wading River and earn the Pine Tree cooking patch. Price $9. Online registration is HERE, flyer for this program is HERE.

 

University of Scouting, Saturday, Dec 3, 9am-4pm

The University of Scouting is a oneday supplemental training program designed to provide ideas and resources in areas to benefit your Pack, Troop or Crew, while having fun. The University of Scouting is offered once a year to assist Scouts and Scouters in their Scouting positions. Parents may attend also. It is also a great way to connect with other Scouters.

All Adult Volunteers including Cub Scout, Boy Scout, Explorer, Venturing Leaders, Commissioners, District and Council level volunteers, and all other Scout volunteers should consider attending. The link to the flyer for this program can be found HERE.
