Troop Dues Due, Thursday, Nov. 17, 7:30pm

Do to increases in registration/chartering costs by BSA National, troop dues will be going up to $125 for the year. Dues is past due and can be payed at any troop meeting. Please pay your dues as soon as possible to help keep the troop funded if you have not already.


West Hills Park Camping Trip Equipment Return, Nov. 17, 7:30pm

Please bring back any assigned troop equipment cleaned and dried to the troop meeting this week..


Turkey in the Woods, Thank You

This was a wonderful event enjoyed by all who attended. Thank you to all who helped to make this happen!!


Wreath Sale, Orders Due Nov. 17

The troop will be selling wreaths again for the holidays. We are in need of volunteers to make ribbons and to collect pine cones to be applied to wreaths we get. Please contact Mrs. Kulins if you can help decorate .

Flyers and order forms will be handed out at the troop  meeting tonight or the flyer can be downloaded from HERE and the order form from HERE. All orders with payment in full are due at the Nov 17th troop meeting. Please contact Mrs. Leisenring if you order questions.


Merit Badge Workshops, Nov - Dec Registration, OPEN

Registration for all November and December Merit Badge Workshops was opened Monday Oct. 17. Dates, available courses and registration can be found HERE.  


Merit Badge Workshop, Saturday, Nov. 19, 9am-1:30pm

The council is having a merit badge workshop on this day. All workshops have been filled except Graphic Arts, registration available HERE. Be sure to get a blue card from Mr Hanley and check for PreReqs


Toby Harrington’s Eagle Project, Nov. 19, 8am-4pm, Nov. 20, 12am-4pm

Toby will be holding his Eagle project this weekend doing work at the United Methodist Church in Merrick. Please save the dates, more details to follow.


20th Annual 10 Commandment Hike, Friday, Nov. 25

The hike this year will be in Bellmore. It is a great way to walk off all the extra servings of turkey and stuffing from Thanksgiving and learn. Cost is $5 per scout and adult if registered by 11/18, $10 after 11/18. The online registration is available HERE, the permission slip is due at the troop meeting on 11/17.


Soup Kitchen Community Service, Sunday, Nov. 27, 10:30am-3:30pm

The troop will be performing community service at the United Methodist Church Soup Kitchen in Farmingdale by serving meals to those in need. Scouts and adults are needed for this day. Please mark your calendars. Permission slips are available HEREare due at the 11/17 troop meeting. Contact Mrs. Kulins with questions.


Toby Harrington’s Eagle Project Fundraiser, Saturday, Dec. 17, 9:30am

Toby is doing a day at the movies to help me raise money for my Eagle Project.

Scout and Scouter Training Opportunities

 

Pine Tree Training: Backpacking (Cold Weather), Nov. 19, 9:00am to 1:00pm

Open to Webelos and Boy Scouts.Come out learn or practice your Backpacking skills at Schiff Scout Reservation in Wading River and earn the Pine Tree Backpacking Patch. Price $6. Online registration is HERE, flyer for this program is HERE.

 

Pine Tree Training: Cooking, Nov. 19, 8:30am to 2:30pm

Open to all Boy Scouts and Webelos. Work on the requirements for the cooking Merit Badge at Schiff Scout Reservation in Wading River and earn the Pine Tree cooking patch. Price $9. Online registration is HERE, flyer for this program is HERE.

 

University of Scouting, Saturday, Dec 3, 9am-4pm

The University of Scouting is a oneday supplemental training program designed to provide ideas and resources in areas to benefit your Pack, Troop or Crew, while having fun. The University of Scouting is offered once a year to assist Scouts and Scouters in their Scouting positions. Parents may attend also. It is also a great way to connect with other Scouters.

All Adult Volunteers including Cub Scout, Boy Scout, Explorer, Venturing Leaders, Commissioners, District and Council level volunteers, and all other Scout volunteers should consider attending. The link to the flyer for this program can be found HERE.

 

Outdoor Ethics Courses: Leave No Trace & Tread Lightly! Trainer Course

Theodore Roosevelt Council will be holding these training courses at Schiff Scout Reservation on Jan. 20–22, 2017. Starts at 6pm on Friday and ends at 12noon on Sunday.

(You only need to attend one of these weekend courses)

In addition to Leave No Trace this program will qualify you as a Tread Lightly! Trainer.

This course is open to registered youth, at least 14 years old as of the start of the course, & BSA registered adults.

Course size is limited! All prior courses filled up fast.

DEADLINES TO REGISTER: Fri., Jan. 6, 2017

Course Fee $90 per person includes all materials, membership with the LNT Center & Tread Lightly!, patch, trained card, meals, cabin camping site & insurance.

Participants must attend all sessions to complete the course.

Troop Committee Training Saturday, Jan 14, 2017, 7:30am to 9:00am

The troop is always in need of adult help please consider taking a committee position. This training will give you insight into how you can help our boys and the troop successful. This is for any troop committee position. Scoutmasters and Assistant Scoutmasters are encouraged to take this training to learn the functions of the committee and how the committee can best support your program. Please consider taking this course and helping out our boys. This will be held at Wantagh Memorial Congregational Church. Registration is available HERE.

 

Scoutmaster Fundamentals, Saturday, Jan 14, 2017, 9:30am to 2pm

The troop is always in need of adult help please consider becoming an Assistant Scoutmaster. This training will give you insight into how you can help our boys and the troop successful. Scoutmasters, Assistant Scoutmasters, youth (at least 16 years old) holding the JASM position in the troop & Committee members are encouraged to take this training to learn how a troop operates to help you provide better program support Please consider taking this course and helping out our boys. This will be held at Wantagh Memorial Congregational Church. Registration is available HERE.
