Troop 577 Knot Contest, Thursday, Feb. 4, 7:30pm

The troop knot contest continues, all Troop 577 scouts are eligible. . This week’s knot will be the bowline knot, see how to tie it HERE. One bonus point if you can tie the bowline one handed.

Make sure you get some practice if you have not already. Next week's knot will be the taught line hitch, see how to tie it HERE.


 

Summer Camp Deposits Due March 3, 7:30pm

The troop will be attending summer camp this year at Onteora Scout Camp the week of July 17-23. The total price for camp this year will be $435 per scout. A deposit of $100 per scout is due on March 3 at the troop meeting but sooner would be better. Balance payments are due on May 5 at the troop meeting or sooner, partial payments before will also be accepted. If you have any questions please ask Mr Hanley, Mr Harrington, Mr O’Hea or Mr Kulins.

Scout Sabbath, Saturday, Feb. 5

A Scout is Reverent. Please consider attending a service on this day at your prefered house of worship. If you do please attend in full Class A uniform and let Mrs. Kulins know.


 

TRC STEM Open House, Saturday, Feb. 6, 10am-2pm

The Theodore Roosevelt Council is holding open house open to all to see the new STEM lab and programs in action. The open house is at the Council office in Massapequa from 10am till 2pm. It is open to all bring a friend have fun see what science, technology, engineering and math is all about!!!

Scout Sunday, Sunday, Feb. 7

A Scout is Reverent. Please consider attending a service on this day at your prefered house of worship. There may be a specific Scout Sunday Service so please check with you house of worship. If you do attend a service please attend in full Class A uniform and let Mrs. Kulins know.


 

Camporee Patch Design Contest, Due Feb 12

There is a Camporee  patch design competition again this year. The winning design will become the Official Patch Design and the Scout submitting the winning design will receive a Special Prize Award. All entries earn 2 points per scout entry for their unit so we need everyone please enter a design, just do your best.

Designs must be submitted no later than February 12th , 2016, in person, by mail, or by email to:

Designs should be in color and indicate the proper shape and size; however, a design may be submitted in Black & White if a complete color key is included. Each design must include the words:

2016 Pequott Camporee, “IRON CHEF” and have the BSA fleur d’lis symbol located on the patch.

 

As a Special Bonus, the winning Patch will also have the initials of the Scout who designed the

patch, together with his unit, embedded onto the patch.

Blue Nose Camping Trip, Feb. 13-15

For those with up to date Blue Nose Training the date for the yearly trip to Onteora is rapidly approaching. Price for this trip will be $45 per scout or scouter. We are leaving from Newbridge Road School on Saturday Feb.13 at 7am. The permission slip available HERE is due at the Feb. 4 troop meeting.


 

Durland Scout Reservation Cabin Camping Trip, Feb. 19-21

The troop will be cabin camping at Durland Scout Reservation in Putnam Valley, NY this weekend, Feb. 19 - 21. We will be leaving from Newbridge Road School at 7pm Friday night. Hopefully we will be able to do some snow for sleigh riding. Cost will be $25 per scout and adult. The permission slip available HERE is due at the troop meeting, Feb.11. Merit Badge Workshop, Saturday, Feb. 20, 9am-1:30pm

The council is having another merit badge workshop on this day. The merit badges to be offered are Game Design, Emergency Preparedness, Chemistry and Art. The cost is $25, online registration is HERE. Be sure to get a blue card from Mr. Hanley and check for PreReqs.


 

Committee Meeting, Monday Feb. 22, 7:30-9pm

There is a troop committee meeting Monday, Feb. 22 at the Kulins house. As always all parents are invited to attend to see what is going on in the troop and provide input.


 

Community Service / Eagle Project Opportunity

ATTENTION BOY SCOUTS, in a remote area of Haiti, a new Boy Scout Troop is forming, but is in need of assistance. If any troop would be interested in sharing some uniforms and equipment, or if someone is looking for an Eagle Scout Project, please leave your contact information for Sharon Eriksen 


 

Scout and Scouter Training Opportunities

 

Pine Tree Training: Cooking, Feb. 6, 8:30am to 2:30pm

Open to all Boy Scouts and Webelos. Work on the requirements for the cooking Merit Badge at Schiff Scout Reservation in Wading River and earn the Pine Tree cooking patch. Price $9. Online registration is HERE, flyer for this program is HERE.

 

Leave No Trace/Tread Lightly Trainer Course, Feb. 19-21

This course will satisfy the training requirement for the Leave No Trace Trainer troop position. At course completion each participant will be able to offer quality Leave No Trace Awareness & BSA LNT 101 presentations.
