Troop 577 Knot Contest, Thursday, Feb. 18, 7:30pm

The troop knot contest continues, all Troop 577 scouts are eligible. . This week’s knot will be two half hitches, see HERE how to tie it. Next week’s knot will be the clove hitch, see how to tie it HERE.


 

Summer Camp Deposits Due March 3, 7:30pm

The troop will be attending summer camp this year at Onteora Scout Camp the week of July 17-23. The total price for camp this year will be $435 per scout. A deposit of $100 per scout is due on March 3 at the troop meeting but sooner would be better. Balance payments are due on May 5 at the troop meeting or sooner, partial payments before will also be accepted. If you have any questions please ask Mr Hanley, Mr Harrington, Mr O’Hea or Mr Kulins.

Durland Scout Reservation Cabin Camping Trip, Feb. 19-21

The troop will be cabin camping at Durland Scout Reservation in Putnam Valley, NY this weekend, Feb. 19 - 21. We will be leaving from Newbridge Road School at 7pm Friday night. Hopefully we will be able to do some snow for sleigh riding. Cost will be $25 per scout and adult. The permission slip available HERE is due at the troop meeting, Feb.11. Contact Mr. Massoni with questions.


 

Merit Badge Workshop, Saturday, Feb. 20, 9am-1:30pm

The council is having another merit badge workshop on this day. The merit badges to be offered are Game Design, Emergency Preparedness, Chemistry and Art. The cost is $25, online registration is HERE. Be sure to get a blue card from Mr. Hanley and check for PreReqs.


 

Committee Meeting, Monday Feb. 22, 7:30-9pm

There is a troop committee meeting Monday, Feb. 22 at the Kulins house. As always all parents are invited to attend to see what is going on in the troop and provide input.


 

Scouting for Food, Saturday March 5, 9am - 5pm

What:  Scouting for Food 2016

Where:  Coming Soon

When:  Saturday, March 5, 9 am through 5 pm

What:  Class A and weather appropriate outerwear.

 

We will need 2 to 3 scouts, and 1 to 2 adults, to cover each shift.  

Permission slips and signups will be available soon.

Boxes for packing food items greatly needed.


 

Farmingdale Soup Kitchen Service Opportunity, Sunday, March 6

Once again we will be afforded the opportunity to help our fellow man by providing a hot meal to folks in need.

There are several scouts in the troop with low service hours that could really benefit from this opportunity. Remember community service in addition to being required for school is also required for rank advancement in the troop.

We will leave from Newbridge School at 10:30am and return approximately 3:30pm.  Class B's PLUS caps a must, let’s look sharp as always!

All Scouts wishing to participate should set aside the date. We will also needs adults for transportation and other help. Permission slips and a signup sheet will be available soon.


 

Introduction to Scuba class, Saturday April 2, 10am to 12:30pm

Venture Crew 288 will be sponsoring an introduction to SCUBA class. Please see the information below regarding the SCUBA Intro Class at Chaminade Pool on Saturday April 2 at 10am.This is a coed event for anyone 13 and over. Please respond if you plan on attending. There are LIMITED SPOTS available. The Cost of the class is $75.00 and includes all just bring your bathing suit and towel.

Scout and Scouter Training Opportunities

 

Leave No Trace/Tread Lightly Trainer Course, Feb. 19-21

This course will satisfy the training requirement for the Leave No Trace Trainer troop position. At course completion each participant will be able to offer quality Leave No Trace Awareness & BSA LNT 101 presentations. More info at www.lnt.org This program will also include a session on Tread Lightly! this will qualify you as a Tread Lightly! Trainer. More info on Tread Lightly! at www.treadlightly.org. This will be held at Schiff Scout Reservation, more details can be found HERE.

 

Tread Lightly Master Educator Course, March. 5, 9am - 5pm

Tread Lightly!®’s Master Tread Trainer™ course is designed to provide an in-depth look at outdoor ethics focusing on motorized and mechanized recreation on both land and water. Participation in the course qualifies individuals to present the Tread Lightly! message consistently to others in their state or region. Price for this course is $160, registration is available HERE till Feb. 12.
