Honor Court, March 3, 7:00pm

This week meeting will be a Court of Honor, scouts will be receiving recognition for their accomplishments and activities. All parents, siblings and family are encouraged to attend.

Patrol responsibilities are as follows, Ben's patrol is bringing drinks and chips or pretzels.  Ryan's patrol is bringing cookies and cake & the senior patrol is bringing fruit.  

Also, we will start accepting donations for scouting for food at this meeting so bring non perishable food stuffs to the meeting.


 

Summer Camp Deposits Due March 3, 7:00pm

The troop will be attending summer camp this year at Onteora Scout Camp the week of July 17-23. The total price for camp this year will be $435 per scout. A deposit of $100 per scout is due at the troop meeting this week. Balance payments are due on May 5 at the troop meeting or sooner, partial payments before will also be accepted. If you have any questions please ask Mr Hanley, Mr Harrington, Mr O’Hea or Mr Kulins.

Scouting for Food, Saturday March 5, 9am - 5pm

What:  Scouting for Food 2016

Where:  King Kullen, Sunrise Highway, Bellmore

When:  Saturday, March 5, 9 am through 5 pm (2 hour shifts)

What:  Class A and weather appropriate outerwear.

 

We will need 2 to 3 scouts, and 1 to 2 adults, to cover each shift.  

Permission slips are available HERE and signups will be available at the troop meeting or contact Mrs. Leisenring 

 

Boxes for packing food items greatly needed and appreciated.


 

Merit Badge Workshop, Saturday, March 5, 9am-1:30pm

The council is having another merit badge workshop on this day. The merit badges to be offered are Graphic Arts, Fingerprinting & Inventing. The cost is $25, online registration is HERE. Be sure to get a blue card from Mr. Hanley and check for PreReqs.


 

Farmingdale Soup Kitchen Service Opportunity, Sunday, March 6, 10:30am-3pm

Once again we will be afforded the opportunity to help our fellow man by providing a hot meal to folks in need.

There are several scouts in the troop with low service hours that could really benefit from this opportunity. Remember community service in addition to being required for school is also required for rank advancement in the troop.

We will leave from Newbridge School at 10:30am and return approximately 3:00pm.  Class B's PLUS caps a must, let’s look sharp as always!

All Scouts wishing to participate should sign up. We will also needs adults for transportation and other help. Permission slips are available HERE and a signup sheet will be available at the troop meeting this week or contact Mrs. Leisenring 


 

TLC Meeting, Sunday, March 6, 7-8pm

All scout leadership and adult leadership need to attend. As always it will be at the SPL’s home.


 

Merit Badge Workshop, Saturday, March 19, 9am-1:30pm

Introduction to Scuba class, Saturday April 2, 10am to 12:30pm

Venture Crew 288 will be sponsoring an introduction to SCUBA class. Please see the information below regarding the SCUBA Intro Class at Chaminade Pool on Saturday April 2 at 10am.This is a coed event for anyone 13 and over. Please respond if you plan on attending. There are LIMITED SPOTS available. The Cost of the class is $75.00 and includes all just bring your bathing suit and towel.

Scout and Scouter Training Opportunities

 

Outdoor Ethics Course, March 4-6

This course is being presented by the SCC out at Schiff Scout Reservation, Friday, March 4, 2016 at 7:00pm to Sunday, March 6, 2016 at 12:00pm. See HERE for more details.

Tread Lightly Master Educator Course, March 5, 9am - 5pm

Tread Lightly!®’s Master Tread Trainer™ course is designed to provide an in-depth look at outdoor ethics focusing on motorized and mechanized recreation on both land and water. Participation in the course qualifies individuals to present the Tread Lightly! message consistently to others in their state or region. Price for this course is $160, registration is available HERE till Feb. 12.

 

NRA Rifle, Shotgun and Basic Instructor Training, March 18-20

This is a certification course for BSA range instructor being held at Schiff Scout Reservation on Friday, January 22, 2016 at 7:00pm to Sunday, January 24, 2016 at 5:00pm

Course will start with BIT training on Friday which must be completed within 12 months of becoming a certified instructor in any of the NRA Disciplines. Rifle Instructor will take place on Saturday followed by Shotgun Instructor on Sunday. Each discipline will require time on the range so please prepared for dealing with the elements. Troop Committee Training, Saturday, March 19, 7:30am to 9am

The troop is always in need of adult help please consider taking a committee position. This training will give you insight into how you can help our boys and the troop successful. This is for any troop committee position. Scoutmasters and Assistant Scoutmasters are encouraged to take this training to learn the functions of the committee and how the committee can best support your program. Please consider taking this course and helping out our boys. This will be held at Wantagh Memorial Congregational Church. Registration is available HERE.

 

Scoutmaster Fundamentals, Saturday, March 19, 9:30am to 2pm

The troop is always in need of adult help please consider becoming an Assistant Scoutmaster. This training will give you insight into how you can help our boys and the troop successful. Scoutmasters, Assistant Scoutmasters, youth (at least 16 years old) holding the JASM position in the troop & Committee members are encouraged to take this training to learn how a troop operates to help you provide better program support Please consider taking this course and helping out our boys.
