Troop 577 Knot Contest, Thursday, March. 10, 7:30pm

The troop knot contest continues, all Troop 577 scouts are eligible. . This week’s knot will be two half hitches, see HERE how to tie it. Next week’s knot will be the clove hitch, see how to tie it HERE. This is a repeat of the knot from 2 weeks ago that we were unable to do.


 

Summer Camp Deposits PAST DUE

The troop will be attending summer camp this year at Onteora Scout Camp the week of July 17-23. The total price for camp this year will be $435 per scout. A deposit of $100 per scout is PAST DUE. Balance payments are due on May 5 at the troop meeting or sooner, partial payments before will also be accepted. If you have any questions please ask Mr Hanley, Mr Harrington, Mr O’Hea or Mr Kulins.


 

Garvies Point Museum-Preserve, Saturday, March 12

The troop will be doing a service project and a hike this Saturday at Garvies Point Museum-Preserve up in Glen Cove. We will meet at Newbridge Road School at 9am and return around 2:30pm. Bring daypacks, work gloves, water and a bag lunch. Permission slips are available HERE.


 

US Air Force Rhythm in Blue Jazz Ensemble, Tues, March 15, 7pm

The US Air Force Rhythm in Blue Jazz Ensemble will be performing at the Adelphi University Performing Arts Center on Tuesday, March 15, 2016 7:00 PM.

Tickets are free but must be reserved in advance -  please see - https://adelphi.secure.force.com/ticket/#sections_a0FA000000HGhbbMAD   

This is a fantastic opportunity to see a live performance by a nationally recognized jazz ensemble at a nearby local university in a beautiful high quality music venue.

This is not a troop activity but thought some may be interested in attending on their own.


 

Merit Badge Workshop, Saturday, March 19, 9am-1:30pm

The council is having another merit badge workshop on this day. The merit badges to be offered are Citizenship in the Community, Robotics, Signs Signals & Codes and Leatherwork. The cost is $25, online registration is HERE. Be sure to get a blue card from Mr. Hanley and check for PreReqs. Merit badges will be offered during future workshops can be found HERE or for this and other council activities go to the TRC calendar HERE.


 

Committee Meeting, Monday March. 21, 7:30-9pm

There is a troop committee meeting Monday, March. 21 at the Kulins house. As always all parents are invited to attend to see what is going on in the troop and provide input.


 

Seamus Healey Eagle Project Fundraiser, Thursday, Mar. 24, 7-9

Since there is not troop meeting this night Seamus will be holding a bowling fundraiser for his Eagle Project at Wantagh Lanes. It will be $10 per person. See or contact Seamus with any questions.


 

Introduction to Scuba class, Saturday April 2, 10am to 12:30pm

Venture Crew 288 will be sponsoring an introduction to SCUBA class. Please see the information below regarding the SCUBA Intro Class at Chaminade Pool on Saturday April 2 at 10am.This is a coed event for anyone 13 and over. Please respond  if you plan on attending. There are LIMITED SPOTS available. The Cost of the class is $75.00 and includes all just bring your bathing suit and towel.

Merit Badge Workshop, Saturday, April 2, 9am-1:30pm

Order of the Arrow 5K Run/Walk, Sunday, April 3rd, 9:00AM

The 5th annual Order of the Arrow 5K Run/Walk is going to be taking place on Sunday, April 3rd, 2016, at 9:00AM in Eisenhower Park. All proceeds will be going to the Veterans on Long Island. This year, we will have dri-fit t-shirts for all pre-registered. There will also be refreshments and raffles afterwards. If you are interested in volunteering you can contact race director, Ryan Clifford. Registration is $25 with a $5 discount to all veterans and Scouts.

Scout and Scouter Training Opportunities

 

NRA Rifle, Shotgun and Basic Instructor Training, March 18-20

This is a certification course for BSA range instructor being held at Schiff Scout Reservation on Friday, January 22, 2016 at 7:00pm to Sunday, January 24, 2016 at 5:00pm

Course will start with BIT training on Friday which must be completed within 12 months of becoming a certified instructor in any of the NRA Disciplines. Rifle Instructor will take place on Saturday followed by Shotgun Instructor on Sunday. Each discipline will require time on the range so please prepared for dealing with the elements. Cost is $180, registration, contact and more details can be found HERE.

 

Troop Committee Training, Saturday, March 19, 7:30am to 9am

The troop is always in need of adult help please consider taking a committee position. This training will give you insight into how you can help our boys and the troop successful. This is for any troop committee position. Scoutmasters and Assistant Scoutmasters are encouraged to take this training to learn the functions of the committee and how the committee can best support your program. Please consider taking this course and helping out our boys. This will be held at Wantagh Memorial Congregational Church. Registration is available HERE.

 

Scoutmaster Fundamentals, Saturday, March 19, 9:30am to 2pm

The troop is always in need of adult help please consider becoming an Assistant Scoutmaster. This training will give you insight into how you can help our boys and the troop successful. Scoutmasters, Assistant Scoutmasters, youth (at least 16 years old) holding the JASM position in the troop & Committee members are encouraged to take this training to learn how a troop operates to help you provide better program support Please consider taking this course and helping out our boys. This will be held at Wantagh Memorial Congregational Church. Registration is available HERE.
