Summer Camp Second Payment Due, Thursday, March 19

Resica Falls Scout Reservation summer camp second payment of $100 is due at this weeks troop meeting. Don’t miss the opportunity for a great week of fun, learning and merit badge earning. Scout account balances were handed out last week showing how much will be applied and what you still owe.



Camping Trip, Schiff Scout Reservation, March 21-22

The troop camping trip is the weekend of Mar. 21 - Mar. 22, 2015 at Schiff Scout Reservation. We are leaving at 7am Saturday day from Newbridge Road School and returning around 1pm Sunday. Cost will be $20 for scouts and adults.


We are trying to plan a GeoCache program out there and need to know who in the troop has handheld GPS units so the patrols can go out individually. The Trail covers the 12 points of the scout law and  in there they will find  a portion of the latitude or longitude of one of the Stage Two (Scout Oath) caches.  In order to find the second stage caches, they must find all of the Stage One caches and piece together the latitude and longitude of the Stage Two caches.


The troop will be dutch oven cooking so please bring some recipies. Permission slips available HERE are due March 19. Contact Mr. Messoni with any questions about the trip.
           

Merit Badge Workshop, Saturday, March 21, 9am-1pm

Council is having another Merit Badge Workshop this Saturday. For $25 boys can work on one Merit Badge. The Merit Badges for this session are EPrep (scouts must have first aid to take), Citizenship in the Nation (Eagle required) and Disability awareness. Everyone is required to come to the workshop with a Blue card for the badge that you are taking so please see Mr Kulins Thursday. You will only have time for one badge. Order of the Arrow Patriot 5K Run/Walk, Saturday, March 21, 8:55am-12noon

For those not camping or attending the Merit Badge Workshop the 4th Annual Order of the Arrow Patriot 5K Run/Walk will be held on Saturday, March 21, this year at Eisenhower Park. This year's patriot theme race will have all proceeds given to our veterans. Registration required HERE.



Scouting for Food, Sunday, March 22, 9 am - 5 pm

What:  Scouting for Food 2015

Where:  King Kullen on Sunrise Highway, Bellmore

When:  Sunday, March 22, 9 am through 5 pm

What:  Class A and weather appropriate outerwear.

 

We will need 2 to 3 scouts, and 1 to 2 adults, to cover each shift.  Please fill in and bring a print out of attached shift schedule to next meeting. Shift schedule sign up HERE.

 

A few drivers will also be needed to deliver the food to:

St. Barnabas Food Pantry, Bedford Ave., Bellmore, NY 11710

at the end of the day.

 

Boxes for packing food items greatly needed.

 

Scouts who will be camping this weekend may still participate by delivering flyers in your neighborhood and bringing the food you collect to our March 19th and 26th meetings.

2016 High Adventure Kickoff Meeting, Thursday, March 26, 7:30

2016 High Adventure Kick Off Meeting on Thursday March 26 7:30 at the Council Service Center Board room. Come learn about Philmont, Sea base and Northern Tier and see what our council contingents have to offer for expeditions in 2016. Scouts interested should be 14 at the time of the expedition in 2016. Sea Base takes place in February, Philmont in July or August, and Northern Tier sometime in August. This meeting is open to all if you have questions please contact Mr. Kulins.


 

Farmingdale Soup Kitchen Service Opportunity, Sunday, March 29

Once again we will be afforded the opportunity to help our fellow man by providing a hot meal to folks in need.

There are several scouts in the troop with low service hours that could really benefit from this opportunity. Remember community service in addition to being required for school is also required for rank advancement in the troop. If you’re not sure ask Mrs. Schwartz for your times.

 

We will leave from Newbridge School at 10:30am and return approximately 3:30pm.  Class B's PLUS caps a must, let’s look sharp as always!

 

All Scouts wishing to participate should bring permission slips from HERE to one of the Troop’s Thursday meetings by March 19 and please give to Mrs. Schwartz.   Questions ask Mrs Schwartz

Mr. Harrington is arranging another group NY Islander game outing, more details in the near future.


 

Introduction to Scuba, Saturday, April 18, 10:00am - 12:30am

Crew288 is sponsoring a 13 and older coed “Introduction to Scuba”on Saturday, April 18, 10:00am-12:30 at Chaminade High School, Jackson Ave, Mineola. The cost is $50 per person.

Training Opportunities

 

Den Chief Training is coming up on April 11, registration can be found HERE. It is $10 for the course.

 

National Youth Leadership Training will be held this year at Schiff Scout reservation on August 16-21.  National Youth Leadership Training (NYLT) is an exciting, action packed program designed to provide youth members with leadership skills and experiences they can use in their home troops, teams, crews, personal lives, and in other situations demanding leadership of self and others. Scouts must be 13yo and First Class to attend or with approval of Mr Kulins. All registrations require a letter of recommendation from your Scoutmaster.  

The fee for this years program is $300 with a $50 deposit due at registration. Full payment is due July 18. The registration form and more details are available HERE.

NYLT training is required by Troop 577 for all senior leadership positions so if you have not taken the course please seriously consider it.
