Located at the northern tip of Manhattan in the Inwood-Washington Heights area, the Revolutionary War Historical Trail is a walking tour rich in the history of the early Dutch colonists, the American Revolution, the City of New York and the entire country.
Some sites of interest included on the tour are:
  • Dyckman Farmhouse
  • Ft. Washington Park
  • Morris-Jumel Mansion
  • Inwood Hill Park
  • The Cloisters
  • Sylvan Terrace
  • High Bridge Park
The hike will be on Saturday, December 20, 2014. We will meet at the Bellmore LIRR train station at 7:00 am at the main waiting area across from the fire house, and will be departing on a 7:21 am train to Penn Station. Scouts / Parents are responsible for purchasing their own combination off-peak round trip LIRR ticket and two trip Metrocard at vending machines located by the waiting area. Cost of rail ticket and subway Metrocard is $23. Please arrive early enough to ensure that you have time to purchase your ticket before our scheduled departure.

The hike lasts approx. 5 hours; we will be returning to the Bellmore train station between 4:00 pm and 5:00 pm.

Class “A” uniforms are to be worn. Pack a bag lunch and something to drink. Wear layers appropriate to the weather.

Permission slips, available here, are due by December 11, 2014. Trip cost is $3.50 (exclusive of train fare). Scouts who complete the hike will receive a commemorative patch from Kintecoying Lodge 4, Order of the Arrow.

We had a great time on last year’s lower Manhattan hike and hope to have as much fun this year. Contact Mr. Massoni with any questions.

Troop Equipment Inventory
We were unable to locate the parade flag holsters and gloves for the Veterans day events and was hoping someone brought them home from the Memorial Day Parade. There was also a combined set of Munchkin cards owned by a couple of boys that went missing at summer camp that someone may have packed away accidentally. Also, since we are in search mode if you have or were asked to store any troop equipment or honor court supplies could you please email us what you have. We are trying to get an account of everything and where it is in case it is needed. Thank you for your cooperation.

2015 Camporee Patch Competition, Due February 13, 2015
Just like last year there is a design competition for the 2015 Camporee participation patch with the theme of Scout vs.Wild (think Man vs Wild). Each patrol should start working on their designs as soon as possible as a group or individually so they will be ready for the final submission date. The winning Scout’s Unit will receive bonus points of 25, 15 or 10 points towards their final Camporee score. Also, all entries earn 2 points per scout entry for their unit. This single item could be the difference between finishing in the top 3 or not. Designs must be submitted no later than February 13th, 2015Full details of the patch requirements can be found here. If you have any questions or need any help please see Mr. O’Hea.
